Are certain thyroid diseases heredity? Could it be ped down from mother to daughter if the mother has it?

I'm not sure but I can tell you my father has an underactive thyroid (unusual for a guy) and so do I... Of course he also has rheumatoid arthritis and they keep testing me for it as well.... Wish I could help more!
